Inspection results are presented as ‘neutral’ information to enable informed market choices of consumers. However, this type of information can be highly stigmatizing to companies and have considerable impact on consumers trust. Therefore, transparency can have unexpected, and even counterproductive effects. Besides, the legitimacy of revealing inspection results is questioned. In this presentation some guidelines will be presented for the design of legitimate and effective enforcement communication.

Judith van Erp ( Erasmus University, Rotterdam, the Netherlands).
